Ramayana trail tour (रामायण यात्रा) is connected with the epic story of Ramayana. It is a religious, cultural and archaeological tour in Sri Lanka where you could experience the places where Ramayana was occurred. According to Ramayana, Ravana, the king of Lanka, abducted Rama's wife Sita. Therefore, Rama and his alliance made rescue campaign that started in India towards Sri Lanka. Finally, Rama rescued his wife and returned home.

  • Day 1

    Day 1 – Airport - Anuradhapura

    On arrival our guide will meet you at the Colombo International airport arrival lounge and transfer to Anuradhapura.

    En-route visit Murugan Temple, Munneswaram Kovil & Manavari Kovil.

    The Murugan temple, situated at the main road 9 km south of Chilaw and 10 km north of Marawila, is an extraordinarily neat Tamil temple, even more colourful than other Hindu Kovils in the modern Drawidian style. The temple is known as Punchi Kataragama temple.

    Munneswaram Kovil - It is believed that Munneswaram predates the Ramayana and a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva was located here.
    Munneswaram means the first temple for Shiva (Munnu + Easwaran). A Shiva Lingam was already here when Lord Rama visited this place. Lord Rama after his victorious battle left for Ayodhya with Sita in one of King Ravana’s Vimanas.

    Manavari Kovil - The first lingam was installed at Manavari near the banks of the Deduru Oya (river). The Manavari Temple in Chilaw is the place where first lingam installed and prayed by Rama, hence to date this lingam is called as Ramalinga Shivan. Rameshwaram is the only other lingam in the world named after Lord Rama.

    Day 2 – Mannar - Jaffna

    After breakfast proceed to Mannar.

    Visit Thiruketheeswaram temple.

    Overlooking the ancient period Tamil port towns of Manthai and Kudiramalai, the temple has lay in ruins, been restored, renovated and enlarged by various royals and devotees throughout its history. Tirukkētīsvaram is one of the Pancha Ishwarams dedicated to the Hindu deity Shiva and is venerated by Shaivas throughout the continent.

    Then proceed to Jaffna and visit Vallipuram Alvar temple, Selva Sannidhi Murugan temple, Keerimalai pond, Naguleswaram & Maviddapuram Kandaswamy temple.

    Revered as Sella Katirkamam of the North, Selva Sannidhi Murugan Temple at Thondaimanaru is situated about twenty miles north of Jaffna. Here too, as at Katirkamam, a free non-agamic environment for worship pervades the place, persons of various creeds and castes congregate here for darshan of the Vel installed at this blessed cannitanam (Celva Cannidhi). Vallipuram is a village in Vadamarachchi, near Point Pedro in Northern Province, Sri Lanka. The village is an ancient settlement with rich archeological remains. The village is home to the ancient Vishnu temple Vallipuram Aalvar Kovil. Keerimalai is a natural spring lying next to the sea west of Palaly. A bathing tank is built surrounding this pool and only the walls separate the waters of the spring and the sea. Although the tank is so close to the sea, the water is fresh coming from an underground fresh water spring in Tellipallai-Maviddapuram. Keerimalai Naguleswaram temple, historically known also as the Thirutambaleswaram Kovil of Keerimalai, is a famous Hindu temple in Keerimalai.

    A shrine dedicated to Lord Skanda or Murugan, god of war and the second son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvathi. The Maviddapuram Kandaswamy Kovil is located close to Kankesanthurai, which was formerly known as Gayathurai. However, since the image of Lord Skanda, also known as Kankesan, first arrived in Gayathurai, it is believed that the name changed to Kankesanthurai.

    Day 3 – Jaffna - Trincomalee

    After breakfast visit Nallur Kandaswamy temple, Karainagar Sivan temple & Nainativu Nagapoosani Amman temple.

    Located in Nallur, Northern Province, Sri Lanka. The presiding deity is Lord Murugan or Katharagama Deviyo in the form of the holy 'Vel' in the Sanctum, the primary shrine, and in other forms, namely, Shanmugar, Muthukumaraswami, Valli Kaanthar with consorts Valli and Deivayanai, and Thendayuthapani, sans consorts in secondary shrines in the temple.

    Temple situated at Thinnaipuram, on the North of Karainagar is called Eezhathu Chidambaram is one of the famous Lord Shiva temple in Jaffna. According to the legend, when Siva devotee Ambalavi Murugar was building the Siva temple, lord shiva came in the dream of his devotee Murugar and guided him to choose the Sivalingam, which was enshrined in the Sanctorum of the temple. Nainativu Nagapooshani Amman Temple is an ancient and historic Hindu temple located amidst the Palk Strait on the island of Nainativu, Sri Lanka. It is dedicated to Parvati who is known as Nagapooshani or Bhuvaneswari and her consort, Shiva who is named here as Nayinaar.

    Then proceed to Trincomalee and visit Sri Lakshmi Narayana Perumal temple & Marble Beach.

    Marble Beach, also known as Marble Bay Beach, is another fine beach in Sri Lanka. The beach is situated at the Marble Bay that comes within the Trincomalee’s natural harbor area. When the day is bright and the sea is calm, you can see the surface shining like a marble and that’s how the name is derived.

  • Day 4

    Day 4 – Trincomalee - Kandy

    After breakfast visit Triru Koneswaram temple & Sri Pathrakali Amman Temple.

    Thiru Koneswaram - is a wonderful temple located on a rock promontory in Trincomalee. It was built by Rishi Agastya on the instructions of Lord Shiva who was impressed by the devotion of King Ravana. This place is unique in this respect because the Lord built a temple for his devotee as a reward for his devotion. Lord Rama is believed to have offered his prayers here too, in order to get rid of the malediction of killing Ravana who was a Brahmin, meaning Brahmahasthi Dosham. The famous temple built here during the glorious era of the Tamil Pallava and Chola and Pandya empires, was destroyed by bigoted Portuguese Christians between 1622 and 1624.

    Sri Pathrakali Amman Temple - dedicated to the goddess Bhadrakali, a form of the goddess Kali Amman in Trincomalee. Visit Ravana Hot Water Wells. Then proceed to Kandy.

    En-route visit Ravana Hot Water Wells

    Ravana Hot Water Wells - The hot wells of Kanniyai or Kanniya are close to the main road to Anuradhapura, in Trincomalee town. Pilgrims believe in the healing powers of the warm water.

    Afternoon visit Murugan Temple Kandy. Building is more or less the same as the others and has the upper stories square like lantern or tower over the sanctum, with a balcony. It consists of four compartments. 

    Temple of the Tooth Relic - is a Buddhist temple in the city of Kandy, Sri Lanka. It is located in the royal palace complex of the former Kingdom of Kandy, which houses the relic of the tooth of the Buddha. Since ancient times, the relic has played an important role in local politics because it is believed that whoever holds the relic holds the governance of the country. Kandy was the last capital of the Sri Lankan kings and is a World Heritage Site mainly due to the temple.

    Day 5 – Kandy - Nuwara Eliya

    After breakfast proceed to Nuwara Eliya.

    En-route Visit Hanuman Kovil.

    Sri Baktha Hanuman Temple - According to the ancient stories, Ramboda is an area, where the forces of Rama's gather to fight against King Ravana. This temple was built by the Chinmaya mission of Sri Lanka and dedicated to Hanuman. This temple houses for 16 feel height statue of Hanuman. Afternoon visit Seetha Amman Temple & Gayathri Peedam.

    Seetha Amman Temple - is located approximately 1 kilometer from Hakgala Botanical Garden and 5 kilometers from Nuwara Eliya. The temple is located in the village of Seetha Eliya. This place is believed to be the site where Sita was held captive demon king Ravana, and where she prayed daily for Rama to come and rescue her in the Lankan epic, Ramayana. On the rock face across the stream are circular depressions said to be the footprints of Ravana’s elephant.

    Gayathri Peedam - also spelled as Gayaththri Peedam, is within the Nuwara-eliya town, the first and most significant temple built for Gayathri Amman in Sri Lanka. Gayathri being an aspect of Saraswati and the Universal Mother. The temple was founded by the Gayathri Siddhar Swami Murusegu. The Shiva Lingam for this Tamil temple was brought from the Holy River Narmada. Gayathri Pitam is said to be the place from where King Ravana's son Meghanath propitiated Lord Shiva with penance and worship and in turn was granted super natural powers by the mighty god.

  • Day 6

    Day 6 – Nuwara Eliya - Colombo

    After breakfast proceed to Colombo.

    Visit Anjaneyer Temple.

    Panchamuga Anjaneyer Hanuman temple - Hanuman is often called Anjaneyar by Tamils, as his mother's name is Anjan. This Kovil is the first Anjaneyar temple in Sri Lanka and dedicated to Lord Hanuman in his Panchamuga form. Annually at the end of December or in the beginning of January the feast is celebrated. It is one of the most popular processions in Colombo. Visitors are advised to wash hands and feet before entering the temple and not to cross hands inside the temple. Planetarium, Mount Lavinia beach as well as the National Museum.

    Day 7 – Colombo - Airport

    Breakfast at hotel.

    Proceed to the Airport in time for the connection flight.
